April’s Digital Digest – a business year to remember

Welcome to an update from the Devtankers in our latest Digital Digest. We’ve rounded up the financial year in a bumper month with many projects delivered and several awards in the bag! The year has led to a number of interesting, innovative and exciting projects including our recent on-boarding with Rolls-Royce, a well known global brand operating in our home city of Derby. We’re starting this month’s digital digest with a project spotlight.

Project spotlight: Product testing fixtures

We often getting involved in production test projects and this project was a repeat order for PCB test fixtures for a customer whose production is starting to ramp up. So we’re introducing a project spotlight section to our Digital Digest!

Our partnership with Coda, an established supplier of quality fixtures and test pins meant we could source consistent base materials which were then customised at the Devtank HQ to suit the exacting requirements for our customers product under test, a complex single board computer. Having designed and manufactured the bespoke fixtures, we also have to ensure quality through a rigorous test and inspection process. We have to test the tester! The final delivery was wrapped up securely in custom packaging for shipping to an off-shore location.

East Midlands Chamber Derbyshire Business Award Winners

We’ve always been proud to call ourselves an award winning test and measurement company and if our last business year has been anything to go by, we had the validation in bucket loads. Back in November we were delighted to win the “Best use of Innovation or Technology” award sponsored by JCB. Last month we attended the East Midlands Chamber Awards in Derby where we scooped “Digital Transformation” award and  “Innovation of the Year” award sponsored by Rolls-Royce. But these awards are not just trophies, they are a mark of gratitude for the incredible hard work that goes on behind the scenes from our team of Devtankers who are all committed to keep our customers happy and continue to develop a business where we can all prosper. We’re exceptionally proud and grateful for this and for all our customers. It’s a sorry not sorry for shouting about this news again and most especially in our Digital Digest!

OpenSmartMonitor Success

Our OpenSmartMonitors are plug and play but sometimes something more is needed to ensure they are a success when installed. One such use case is Dura Composites. With their innovative recycling method for used turbine blades which are crushed and ground at their factory ready to be reused in their composite products there’s multiple legislative requirements to comply with. They also chose to do more than the legislative requirements, using OpenSmartMonitor across the site for energy, predictive maintenance and machine health monitoring as well as for environmental monitoring. Dura understands that the dust generation in workshops means emissions need to be closely monitored so they are not harmful to their staff. It’s great to see our solution working so well for our customers and particularly in this case where they are using the ‘swiss army knife’ principle of functionality that we built our monitoring solutions on.

From Apprentices to valued Devtankers

During National Apprenticeship Week we shone a spotlight on two of our previous apprentices who are fully qualified and working to a really high standard within Devtank.

Marcus started as a Software Development Apprentice and is now our Lead Support Engineer, his amazing journey has been noted by South Derbyshire Chamber where he was shortlisted as a rising star. His approach to working with clients always gets amazing feedback;

“Marcus helped us set up the monitors at our manufacturing site and ensured the dashboards showed the key parameters we were monitoring which included energy usage, air quality, and machine health. He gave us an oversight in a language we could understand on elements that were highly technical enabling us to feel confident to monitor everything ourselves after initial setup.”

Marcus is currently working on a brand new customer dashboard platform, Skylight, for visualising data collected from our OpenSmartMonitor sensors. Taking continuous feedback from our customers means we can build tools that deliver maximum benefit.

In 2023, Cameron won Apprentice of the Year award and has gone from strength to strength with his professional development. Cameron is our now Operation manager and looks after our project deliveries, customer satisfaction and quality. Cameron’s rounded operational and engineering skills ensure we stay on track with quality, cost and timescales.

Cameron is currently involved in setting up our new MRP platform to track inventory and work orders, whilst managing new projects for a wide range of customers from Blue Chip to SME.

Together they form part of the amazing team we have here at Devtank who are focussed on your success as our customers.
